Today’s visit verb tenses mastery in OET Writing

When to use the past simple in today’s visit?
Past simple is usually used in today’s visit to report signs, symptoms and laboratory data which might change at time of letter reading.
Example: On examination, his blood pressure was 120/80
When to use the present simple in today’s visit?
Present simple is usually used in today’s visit to report signs, symptoms and laboratory data which are less likely to change and remains constant at time of letter reading.
Example: Mr Patrick has an amputated toe and a limping gate.
When to use the present continuous in today’s visit?
Present continuous is used in today visit to indicate patient choices which is temporary and may change any time.
Example: Despite my previous advice, Mr Patrick is still smoking.
When to use the present perfect in today’s visit?
Present perfect is used in today visit with verbs that indicates the status of the patient’s condition including improve, worsen, increase, decrease……..etc.
Example: Mr Patrick’s condition has worsened and his pain has increased
When to use the past perfect in today’s visit?
Past perfect is used in today visit only with reported speech.
Mr Patrick reported that he had had pain on walking.
